UNION IN DIVERSITY

 

This is a kinetic drawing series, a hybrid of trancelike dance, utilising the body as a drawing tool to transcribe movement to paper using charcoal. The Kinetic series draws on Sufi understandings of motion as a reflection of divine presence—where all existence is in a state of continual becoming. Executed in charcoal on paper, these works explore the invisible forces that move the soul through stages of transformation. Fluid marks and shifting forms evoke the inner journey described in Sufi thought: from dispersion to unity, from selfhood toward annihilation (fanā) and return (baqā).

The compositions echo the rhythms of dhikr (remembrance), where repetition generates both stillness and movement, dissolving the illusion of separation. Fields of tension and release suggest the pull between the material and the unseen, the nafs and the spirit. Each gesture becomes an act of witnessing—tracing the passage of energy as it circulates within and beyond the self.

In this series, motion is not physical alone, but metaphysical: a quiet unfolding toward alignment with the Divine.
